Sung is a system guy and looks for players that will fit it....


Sung has one 4-star player on his roster right now in Paige Petty and look how good she's performing. UNC, Duke, UVA and others have anywhere from 8 to 20 4 and 5 star players and most of them aren't playing as well as Petty. It's disappointing when you look at the recruiting rankings, but 10-15 programs sign 75% of the top prospects (4 and 5-star players). Tech was one of the worst (if not the worst) P-5 women's lacrosse programs in D-1 for 15-20 years. Kind of like when Buzz took over the men's basketball program from James Johnson. It's going to take time, maybe 2 more years. Tech has the youngest team in the ACC. IMHO, the girls' high school lacrosse rankings are a little lazy. Coaches like John Sung have to work hard and do better jobs evaluating talent than the blueblood programs. It can be done, just look at the job JMU has done. They recruit like Tech with 3-star players. Now that they won a national championship, they're getting a few 4 and 5 star players, but many of those players are coming from places like Georgia and Minnesota.
